“Classmate introduction: Erin”
Today, I learned more about my classmate Erin by the interview from Angie. Erin is from Tianjin, China. She speaks two languages which are Chinese and English. She has been living in New York for four years. Now she lives in Flushing. It takes about one hour to get to school. In the college, she wants to study accounting. In her free time, she likes to watch TV and go shopping.
“My Dream House”
When I was a little girl, there always was a dream house on my mind, but I had no idea what the house looked like or where was located. What I know is I will live with my family. When growing up, it started to have some specific details in my mind. First of all, my dream house is made of wood and even the furniture is all made of wood. It’s built on a beautiful and quiet beach, so during the summer I can go swimming and lie on the beach to enjoy the sunshine. Secondly, the house doesn’t have to be big. It only needs one floor, but with complete facility and it is better to have a backyard, so my dog can play in the backyard. Third, the house should have enough room that my family can live, and one living room that we can eat dinner together. That’s my dream house and I will live with my family in my dream house.
Summary of “Rescue 471”
This section is about Peter and his partner who meet a lot of people who made false emergency medical service calls. One example is a sixty-one-year-old man who is sober but pretends to be an unconscious patient. Another example is a young man who didn’t get shot, but he insisted he had been injured by being shot. All of these examples are false calls, but Peter and his partner see that a lot every day.
In “Rescue 471”, as you can see, you might have the same questions as I have. Why do people make false calls? Like in the first example, why is the old man sober but he pretends he is unconscious? Maybe he is so lonely at a nursing home? Maybe he misses his child? Maybe his child is too busy, and it has been a long time not comes for see him, so he tries to get attention? Nobody knows the real reason. In our mind we think working as a EMT is very exciting every day, and involves save people’s lives, but in fact, they need to handle a lot of trivial things as this, but that is also an interesting way to understand what EMTs have do every day.
“Classification Essay”
Have you ever considered what you will do in the future? There are three jobs that attract me: dental hygienists, accountant and fashion designer.
First, the reasons dental hygienists attract me is because when I do the research, dental hygienists only asks for an associate’s degree, and income is over $70,000 every year. That’s higher than a lot of jobs that ask for higher degrees. Another reason I am interested in this job is when I was 12years old, I had a traffic accident and it broke my teeth. Now I try to know how to protect my teeth more.
Secondly, accountant also attracts me because I’m interested in math more that language, especially when I came here. English is my second language, so it’s hard to remember each word. But math is universal, you only need to remember some numbers and formulas, so math is easier for me.
Finally, fashion designer has been my dream job since I was very little. I believe every girl has a princess dream. My mom has a sewing machine in our house. I have known how to use it since I was 7 years old. I always use it to make some skirts and dresses, then I wear them and pretend I’m a princess. It’s funny but my friends love it. Being a fashion designer is a job that I always dream about.
As you can see, dental hygienists, accountant and fashion designer are the jobs that I like, I have no idea what I will do in the future, but I know what I want. I will try my best to make my dream come true.
How to Make Brownie
Chocolate is a popular food that most people like to eat, especially kids and teenagers. Personally I like to eat chocolate combined with other ingredients such as chocolate brownies, chocolate milk and chocolate moon cakes. This essay explains how to make a delicious chocolate brownie.
Before we start to make a brownie, make sure we have all the ingredients prepared. The ingredients that we need are: 1 ¼ cup sugar, ¾ cup butter, ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 ½ cups flour, I teaspoon baking soda, pinch of salt and 1 cup of milk. For the materials we just need a large sauce pan, a bowl and a baking dish.
Then, after all the ingredients are ready, let’s start to make it. Making a chocolate brownie is kind of easy. First, melt the butter in a large sauce pan. During that time, you can add the cocoa and sugar, then stir constantly over medium low heat until everything is melted. After that, remove from heat and allow cooling. Combine the flour, baking powder and baking soda keep stirring until you get huge bubbles in the finished product. Next, mix in the vanilla, egg and salt. After you have finished all of that, pour the butter into the floured 9*13 baking dish, then bake at 375 °F for about 15-20 minutes. It is done when a toothpick stuck into the tallest part comes out clear.
Finally, you have a hot and fresh brownie. You have two ways to eat it. In one way you can select pop it out of the dish immediately, in the other way as I prefer, leave it in the dish, and wait for almost one hour. This will make it easier to remove from the dish. Then you can cut it and add some topping as you like.
There are so many ways to enjoy the chocolate and you can try this at home. Cooking is fun when you find an easy way to do it. I’m sure you will love these chocolate brownies when you make them.
Business Academy Presentation
On October 22, I went to an event name “Business Academy Presentation on teamwork and presentation skill.” The presentation was located in the Oakland dining room, from 12:10 PM to 2:00 PM. There were two presenters, Margolin & Frank A. Tucker. The reasons I chose to go this event was because I’m interested in business and I want to learn presentation skills because we have to do a lot of presentations after we enter college.
The Oakland dining room is located on top of a small mountain. I went with my classmate, crossed to the field, and climbed up to the top of the stairs. It’s took a while to find this place. The presentation had two parts and has 25 audience members, they also served some food.
The first person present is Nargolin. About him I really can’t talk too much. All I know about him is his name and he is an accountant. That’s all. He spoke too fast so I couldn’t catch what he said.
The second presenter was Tucker. He is a CEO of his own company, he also spoke too fast, but I got what he said, because he used PPT to help his presentation. So even I couldn’t follow I could still look at the PPT to find out what he said. He made me felt that I’m not come there with nothing, at least i understand what he general ideas. He talked about when we make presentation don’t be fear, make more eye contract and demonstrate a positive attitude. Prepare your presentation depend on where you go to present. Choose PPT slides or white board, and always make back up plan, like when you plan to do a PPT, but if the computer is not working, you have a backup plan to fix it. The most important thing in presentation is Q&A, ask questions and remember to say the answer.
This event was successful, but not for me, because I can’t catch everything especially the first presenter. I think that might be better for normal college student.

Rescue 471 Final Reflection
This week I finished the book Rescue 471 by Peter Canning. The final two Sections are called “Memory” and “The Job”. Although the ending is bitter sweet, it ended on a high note.
In the chapter “Thanks”, Arthur and Peter sit in their ambulance in a park waited for call. They were talking about the new system and governments. They notice there is an older couple walking hand in hand who come close and talk to them. The man was the patient that they had helped before. The man remembers Arthur and Peter but they don’t remember the old man at all. A significant idea in the chapter is on page 264 Peter asked: “Remember him?” Arthur said: “No.” and Peter said: “Me, neither.” As you can see Arthur and Peter don’t remember that old man at all, but they pretend that they remember. Because the old man is so appreciated of what they did, if they said that they didn’t remember the old man at all, he would be so upset.
In this chapter “Life”, Peter got a call for a baby who chocked. When he was deriving on the road, he suddenly thought about his life and appreciates for what he is doing. The significant idea in the chapter is on page 280 Peter said: “It’s one of those moments that make me stop and appreciate what I am doing.” Peter thinks that life is so hard but he still worked hard.
In the chapter “Right There”, Peter responds to a call to help a ninety three year old lady who has a pain on her side. She shows Peter where exactly her pain is. She is a happy person and she makes Peter remember the woman that he loved before. A significant idea in this chapter is on page 259 Peter think: “I see the eyes of all the women I have loved.”
I enjoyed reading some stories not talk about saving people’s life, because that shows us how paramedics really work. I will recommend this book to someone who is interested in being a paramedic. I would like to learn more about medical field academic words.

The middle child is able to do things better that other younger sibling. And the younger child is less able to do many things that other sibling. In contrast, the only child takes care of him/ herself as much as possible.
In my country, China, there still some place that are so poor. In those places most of the family, the oldest child always drop out of the school in junior high or even drop ouy at elementary school, because they have to take care of their family. Then leave the chance to younger sibling to get education. When they are born then have responsibility to do this. It’s kind of like they born for this. It’s unfair, but it is the real life.
In my family, I am the younger child, but my case is the same as the only child, because my grandparent takes care of my older sister so I am the only child that lives with my parent. My parent was working so late every day since I was in elementary school. I have to take care of myself, because there is nobody that I can turn around to get help.

In work place when you feel like you have little or no control over your work or lack of recognition or rewards for good work, burnout may come close to you. A Lifestyle when you working too much, without enough time for relaxing and socializing or being expected to be too many things to too many people, you may face burnout right now. If you feel on the road to burnout, don’t worry; the author gives some advice for solving burnout. For example we can start the day with a relaxing ritual; adopt healthy eating, exercising, and sleeping habits and take a daily break from technology.

He knew if he was absent once, he would be absent twice and keep absent. So he controls himself very well. In addition, when he trained a new paramedic, he saw that she had fire in her heart with this job, just like Peter had before. He learned this from the new paramedic. This helped Peter overcome his burnout.

The solution of burnout for the three companies is different. The solution of the first company is to tell employees that they can take as many paid days off as they want. “Ways to Prevent Burnout” introduces some ways to prevent burnout. First, you should have a plan before doing anything; write in the calendar and follow your calendar.
